Lady M Matcha Mille Crêpe Thousand Layer Cake |
Today's our lucky day we were able to purchase a box of Lady M Matcha Mille Crêpe cake in the bay area. Normally it is only available in New York and Los Angeles. The crepes are soft, the filling creamy, sweet but not overpowering. The matcha powder also speaks volumes: it's green, not too bitter, and very well sifted. Simply amazing and well worth the price. Highly recommend for any one who loves Matcha and layered cakes.
The Mille Crêpe comes in plain and frozen, the matcha powder has to be dusted on fresh. We also need to wait a bit before consuming it because it is cold. All these details are taken care of by the reseller of course.
Lady M's description : "Green Tea Mille Crêpes - 9 inches Fine green tea powder is infused into every element of our delicate Green Tea Mille Crêpes, a sight to behold with no less than twenty lacy thin crêpes enveloping the lightest pastry cream, vibrant green tea flavors gently humming in the background. Powdered matcha to top."
Mille crêpes is a French cake made of many crêpe layers. The word mille means "a thousand", implying the many layers of crêpe. (wikipedia). In Asia, this cake is especially popular. The Chinese call it Qian Ceng Bing, One Thousand Layer Cake, the Japanese call it ミルクレープ literally Mille Crepe.
At first, we were doubtful of the authenticity, but how well the crepes stay in form, the creamy green tea powder, how balanced the creaminess and sweetness of the filling, the dusting and the cut, all convinced us that this is exactly how Lady M should take like. Wonders.
Lady M probably used ceremonial grade matcha - the new hype. It means high quality matcha that would only be used in Japanese Tea Ceremonies.
